Eagles shutout Nandua to move to the next level

BERRYVILLE, VA- The Clarke County Eagles improved their record to 11-0 as they dismantled the Nandua Warriors (7-4) in the first round of the VHSL AA Eastern Division Playoffs at Wilbur M. Feltner Stadium on Friday, November 14.

The Eagles head coach Chris Parker became ill at school on Friday and went home prior to the Game. Clarke County Athletic Director and defensive coordinator Casey Childs took over Parker's usual play calling duties.

"Coach Parker was ill all day and he didn't need to be out here in this weather tonight,"Childs said. "We discussed it at the team meal and talked about how everybody needed to come together and take on different roles. I couldn't be more proud of the coaching staff and our players."

#9 Sean McDonald celebrates with team mates after a 45 Yd td run.
The first few series were tight with both teams punting early. The score stood 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. The only scoring on a Hunter Rogers 53 yard touchdown run. Rogers has made a habit of outrunning secondaries all season.

The Eagles put the game away in the second quarter with four scores on four consecutive drives. Senior quarterback Sean McDonald scored twice on runs of 4, and 45 and Rogers found the endzone for the second time on a 12 yard scamper. Rogers scored the two point conversion.

After consecutive sacks by the Eagle defense and clock management, the Eagles were able to score their fifth touchdown with just 22 seconds to go in the half as McDonald found Matt Dang in the corner of the endzone and connected with a five yard touchdown pass. Levi Mayo was 4 of 5 on point after kicks.

McDonald got his third rushing touchdown of the night in the third quarter with a 2 yard run. The three scores gives McDonald 24 rushing touchdowns this season. Rogers two scores gives him 14 on the season. McDonald led all rushers with 172 yards on 13 carries. Rogers ended up with 82 yards on 7 carries. McDonald was 2 of 5 passing for 25 yards including the 5 yard touchdown to Dang.

The Eagles defense pitched the shutout and only let the Warriors cross midfield once in the first quarter. The defense had four sacks, an interception and fumble recovery.
