BLUEMONT, VA (9/17/14) – Our hometown Clarke County Eagles moved to 2-0 with
a 55-8 win over the Stonewall Jackson
Generals (0-3) at “the Felt” on Hall of Fame night. John Ernst, Becky
Armstrong, and Matt Tomblin were inducted at Halftime.
Sophomore
running back Hunter Rogers paced the Eagles with 189 yards rushing on 7 carries
and three touchdowns. Rogers scored on runs of 59, 56, and 13.
Senior quarterback Sean McDonald scored on 50 yard run and was 4 of 10 for 101 yards passing including a 72 yard touchdown pass to Will Roper.
Jaxon
Ottobre scored on an 8 yard run and Chris Keim went in from 10 yards out. Matt
Dang broke loose and rambled 46 yards to get a touchdown for the Eagles.
The Eagles defense held the Generals to 66 yards rushing and 24 yards passing.
Derrick Smith scored the lone Generals touchdown late in the game on a 43 yard scamper.
The Eagles go on the road for the first time this year as the travel to Brentsville to face the 3A Tigers out of the Evergreen District. The Tigers are 2-1 with wins over Manassas Park, and Warren County. The Tigers lost to Skyline last week 23-20. Stonewall Jackson hosts Stuarts Draft in two weeks.
- Friday Night Lights
The James Wood Colonels (1-2) got their
first win of the season with a 36-0 win over the Warren County Wildcats (0-3). Quarterback Brady Hepner was 8 of 10
for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Hepner hit Nick Manuel for a 74 yard strike
and Tyler Bishop for 40 yards. Manuel had 92 yards on 4 receptions and two
interceptions. Bishop also scored on a 6 yard run. The Colonels will travel to
Strasburg to face the Rams on Friday.
The Sherando Warriors (2-1) sent a
message to area teams that they are a force to be reckoned with after the
dismantled the Washington, WV Patriots
(1-2) 60-7 at Arrowhead Stadium. Quarterback Pat Minteer was 6 of 7 passing
with 4 touchdowns. Minteer connected on passes of 62, 29, 9, and 35. Running
back LeeQuan Johnson rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries and scored three times
on runs of 8, 2, and 2. Josh Ojo had an 82 yard kickoff return for a touchdown,
3 receptions for 104 yards with 2 touchdowns. The Warriors travel to Nokesville
to face Kettle Run on Friday in an early matchup of power house football.
The Millbrook Pioneers (2-1) dropped
their first game of the season at the hands of the Kettle Run Cougars (1-1) 55-24. Cougar quarterback Denzel Champion
had 186 yards rushing on 16 carries with touchdown runs of 67, and 69 yards and
was 8 of 13 for 158 yards including a 67 yard touchdown pass to David Eldridge.
Millbrook quarterback Mark Paxton was 4 of 15 for 99 yards with 1 interception
and two touchdowns of 54 and 35 yards both to Ryan Hartigan. Cougar running
back Jaquaves Payton had 64 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns on runs of 1, 5, 2,
and 19. Millbrook travels to Warrenton for face the Fauquier Falcons and Kettle
Run will host Sherando.
The John Handley Judges (2-1) dominated the
Fauquier Falcons (1-2) 48-6 in a
Friday afternoon game at the Handley Bowl. Handley quarterback Will Dearing was
11 of 18 passing for 260 yards and four touchdowns. Dearing connected on passes
of 73, 9, 20, and 18. Wide receiver Dontae Mauck had 4 receptions for 207 yards
and touchdowns of 73 and 20. Running back D.J. Frisbee had 71 yards on 18
carries including a 22 yard touchdown. The Judges defense held Fauquier to 57
yards rushing and 59 yards passing. The Judges will host the Eastern View Cyclones
(3-0) who come in averaging 46 points per game on Saturday at 1:00PM.
The Skyline Hawks (2-1) bounced back
defeating the Brentsville Tigers
(2-1) 23-20 in the area’s most thrilling game of the week. Skyline quarterback
Corbin Ruch was 14 of 23 for 165 yards including touchdown passes of 56 and 20
yards. Jamal Parker caught 4 passes for 84 yards including a 56 yard touchdown.
Running back Jerrius Baltimore had 71 yards rushing on 14 carries including a
17 yard touchdown run. The Hawks will host the Manassas Park Cougars (1-1) and Brentsville hosts the 2-0 Clarke County Eagles.
The Central Falcons (1-1) were idle and
will travel to face the Spotswood
Trailblazers (0-3).
The Strasburg Rams (1-1) were idle and
will host the James Wood Colonels on
Friday night.
- College Corner
The Shenandoah Hornets (1-1) dropped
their home opener at the hands of the Frostburg
State Bobcats (2-0) 20-10 before a packed house at Sprint Field at Shentel
Stadium in Winchester. Shenandoah hosts the Ferrum Panthers (0-1) on Saturday night at 7:00PM at Shentel

The James Madison Bulldogs (2-1) dominated the final three quarters to defeat
the Saint Francis Red Flash (1-2) 38-22 in Head Coach Everett Wither's
debut in front of a crowd of 23,577 at Bridgeforth Stadium/Zane Showker Field
on Saturday. The Bulldogs travel to Philadelphia to face the Villanova
Wildcats (1-1) on Saturday at 12:30PM.

The Bridgewater Eagles (2-0) Junior Matthew Pisarcik connected twice with Jayme Perry for a pair of scores and
accounted for four touchdowns as the Bridgewater Eagles football team rolled
past the visiting Greensboro Pride by a 43-14 score on Saturday night at the
Jopson Athletic Complex. Bridgewater is idle this week.

The Shepherd Rams (2-0) Sophomore quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Wilmington Del. /St.
Mark's) completed 14-of-14 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown and
sophomore running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington
Del./St. Mark's) rushed nine times for 78 yards and three scores to lead
Shepherd University to a 56-0 win over Fairmont State in MEC football action at
Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd
travels to Ohio this Saturday to face the Urbana
Blue Knights (1-1).
