Shepherd University - Shepherd Football Handles Fairmont State by Shepherd Athletic Dept


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) completed 14-of-14 passes for 262 yards and a  touchdown and  sophomore running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) rushed nine times for 78 yards and three scores to lead Shepherd University to a 56-0 win over Fairmont State in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead with 8:59 left in the first quarter on a 10-yard scoring run by junior running back Allen Cross (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach).  Junior kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) added the extra point.

The Rams increased their lead to 14-0 when sophomore quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) teamed with  senior wide receiver William McKenzie (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) on a 17-yard scoring strike with 5:33 left in the first quarter.

Sophomore running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:12 left in the second quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 21-0.

Lolley added an 11-yard scoring run with 1:38 left in the half to give the Rams a 28-0 advantage at the break.


Cross added a six-yard scoring run with 13:38 left in the third quarter to open up the second half scoring.


Lolley added a 16-yard scoring jaunt minutes later to increase the Shepherd lead to 42-0. A 32-yard  punt return by sophomore cornerback/return specialist CJ Davis (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) set up the score.

Freshman running back Trenton Cannon (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) scored on an eight-yard dash with 13:27 left in the fourth quarter.

Shepherd added a score on a three-yard run by redshirt-freshman Malik Harleston (Washington, D.C./McKinley Tech) with 7:11 remaining to complete the scoring.

Shepherd's running game rushed for  242 yards. Cross had nine carries for 31 yards, Cannon added 11 carries for 61 yards, while Harleston rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries.

Hibbs completed 5-of-6 passes for 38 yards for Fairmont State.

McKenzie led the Shepherd receivers with five catches for 107 yards.  Nick Alvaro had two catches for 11 yards for the Falcons.

The Rams had  532 yards of total offense, while limiting Fairmont State to 77 total yards (39 rushing yards).

Sophomore outside Linebacker Jaylen Johnson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) led the Shepherd defense with seven tackles (six solo).  Emanuel Ivey had a game-high nine stops (seven solo) for the Falcons.

Shepherd improves to 2-0, 2-0 in conference play, while Fairmont State falls to 0-2, 0-2. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Urbana for a noon contest. 

Notes: Shepherd takes a 33-32-7 lead in the series with Fairmont State in the all-time series. It marks the first time Shepherd has taken the lead in the series.
